[Commonplace book], [ca. 1835].

Manuscript, in a single hand, of about 60 entries, primarily of translations of short verses from English into Latin and Greek. Poems thus translated include several animal fables by John Gay and brief excerpts from Shakespeare's history plays; Pope's Odyssey of Homer; and Milton's Paradise Lost; as well as an epigram on "a cudgel'd husband" by Swift; a song by Thomas Haynes Bayly titled She Wore a Wreath of Roses; and Wordsworth's On the Sight of a Manse in the South of Scotland.
